Tanacetum Annuum Flower Oil

A rare and valued commodity, an ingredient so amazing that I couldn’t start my skincare journey without. One of the precious and pricy oils that is rich in benefits to the skin and famous with its distinctive cerulean blue tone.

On the coast of Morocco, lives thousands of little flowers that are harvested to create one of our most rare and exotic essential oils in the world.

Also known as Moroccan Tansy, Blue Tansy essential oil’s rarity and complexity are part of its allure. Deep blue like the neighboring sea, this rich, sapphire-colored oil has been beloved for hundreds of years for its sweet, gentle aroma and skin-loving benefits. Today it’s best known for its use in high-end skin care products.

Blue Tansy has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Its common use is to ease and calm irritated skin and relieve troubled skin. It provides gentle exfoliation and is also known to clear congested pores and kill off pimple-causing bacteria making it one of the best oils for acne-prone skin. This is the reason why it is generally used in products for sensitive and acne-prone skin products.

When the flower’s popularity in beauty products surged, it was harvested almost out of existence in the wild. Today, supplies are steadily increasing, but it’s still one of the more expensive essential oils.

The blooms of Tan acetum annuum are yellow. Its slender leaves are covered with a fine white “fur.” The oil has a sweet, herbal fragrance due to its high camphor content. The camphor concentration in blue tansy oil has been shown to help repair damaged skin.

How is it made?

The above-ground flowers and stems of the blue tansy plant are gathered and steam-distilled. In the distillation process, one of the chemical components of the oil, chamazulene, is released. When heated, chamazulene turns deep blue, giving the oil it’s indigo-to-cerulean hue.
